Using profiles in both CiviContribute and CiviEvent
June 10, 2012, 04:57:57 pm
Using CiviCRM 3.2.3

I've got two profiles used in CiviContribute that I want to use in CiviEvent. After about an hour of looking around and reading the documentation, I am unable to figure out how to configure CiviEvent to use these profiles. When I look at page that lists the profiles, I can see a "Used For" column that shows that certain profiles are available for CiviContribute and CiviEvent. Where do I go to link the profiles to the module?

Do you need to be looking at
Manage EVents
Configuration (for the particular event)
Online Registration tab (if that is what they call it in Events)

you should find the 'include profiles' there

apologies if i have the name of the 'tab' wrong but am sure you will spot it

Thanks, but I have looked there.

The profiles I want to include with events are not available in the list box. Profiles seem to be linked to modules somehow and that is what I cannot figure out how to configure.

When looking at the profile list, the modules that the profiles are available for are listed in the "Used By" column.

are there some fields in the profile that Event doesn't like eg Contribution fields?

i thought generally a profile won't show in a list because there is some combination of fields being used in it that it doesn't like

That seems to be the problem. In our situation, taking money for an event is the same as a contribution so we have to be sure that those attending the event follow the same rules as those making contributions. (U. S. Federal Election Commission rules).

Now, what could the workaround be?

Which fields are common to both CiviEvent and CiviContribute? Is that documented anywhere?

I'm going ahead and setting up a new set of custom fields for the events because I still haven't found a way to share fields between events and contributions.
