Required fields on Profiles

I have a number of profiles set up for different forms throughout the system Some of these have required fields on so that the user has to fill them in on that particular form.

However, if I try registering a user in the back end, I now have to fill in *something* in these required fields as well, as the 'Add User' brings up all the associated profiles. Is there any way of making the required fields required only on the front end so that the back end is a little more managable?

can you paste the url concerned?

when using the 'New Individual' via  a url such as

civicrm/contact/add?ct=Individual&reset=1

the system does not use a Profile hence won't be required, unless you made the actual Custom fields required

Don't know what I did - works fine now - I can create a CiviCRM user from the Admin area.

Except that I never get a Joomla user created, even creating a new registration in the front end with Account creation required set on the main profile :( One issue down, now for the next one
