events list in wordpress
June 12, 2012, 09:50:37 am
i have a client that wants me to build them a new site. they want me to build the site in wordress and they also want me to install civicrm. everything was going great until they asked me to add an event list in the sidebar of the site. i can't seem to find anything in civicrm.

does anyone know of a plugin that will parse the ical feed and display a list of events?

i assume this is the feed i want parsed:

domian.com/?page=CiviCRM&q=civicrm/event/ical&reset=1&list=1&rss=1

i don't think hooks are yet working for wordpress, so RSS would be the way to go. try simplepie: http://simplepie.org/wiki/plugins/wordpress/simplepie_plugin_for_wordpress/start

or other rss parser plugin of your choice should do the trick to display your feed items

thanks, i'll try that. now my question is how do i find the rss feed? the one generated by civi is not public. i need to be able to display the feed to everyone and not force users to log into the site in order to see an event

make sure on the event info and settings that you have the 'public' box checked off, that should push it to the rss feed.

1. hooks work in wordpress in a very similar way as they used to in joomla. I'm not sure if anyone has experimented with them though

2. We might have not given anon user permissions for the RSS feed in WP. In general, permissions for anon users are highly restrictive in WP + Civi integration
