Security of CiviCase
June 12, 2012, 12:25:11 pm
Hi All! I need some opinions about the security of CiviCase (Joomla 2.5 install) from those of you who have been using it.  I am part of a non profit that provides financial assistance. We typically receive some documents that are sensitive in nature (bank statements, medical info). Would this information be safe being stored on a shared server (Siteground) or would we just be better off using CiviCase to track where each assistance applicant is in the process and keep documents separately (paper form)?

We are using CiviContribute and it works great. We are now trying to utilize more of the fantastic features of CiviCRM.

I have tried to contact some of the professionals listed on this site that work in Joomla, but both responded they are too busy to take on other projects :-(

Any help or guidance is appreciated.  Thank you!

Not exactly my area of expertise....but I would imagine you could set enough security on a server. I would not expect a standard configuration to be enough if the data is really sensitive, and the cost of a specific configuration might mean you go for the second option.

We use CiviCase, but only use it as an internal application. We have set up a specific case activity for sensitive information, where only the consultant can see the details but the rest of the organisation can see that there is an issue.

The security of your site is based on two issues. One is the security of Joomla and CiviCRM and the second is the server itself.

Joomla is generally pretty secure if you update it when necessary, same for CiviCRM. Your server is as secure as your provider makes it.

So if you are satisfied with those, then it's fine. :)

Thanks to both of you for the replies. Do you have any suggestions on finding a professional to help us build the CiviCase component? I have tried a couple of the professionals listed on the page and they all said they were too busy for a small project. :(
