Tracking replies
June 12, 2012, 08:34:40 pm
I think I am missing a setting somewhere but not sure where.  I want to be able to use the setting that makes the reply-to my email-to-action the address.  So, I have two accounts, bounces@example.com for bounces, and replies@example.com for replies.  But when the email goes out, and I reply to a test email, the address it will be sent to is bounces@example.com.

Where to I set the account the is used for replies?  I have each of these accounts designated properly in account setup.

Thanks

Just to add information...

On step 2 of creating the mailing:

Track Replies? is checked

On step 3:

Reply-To*   Auto-Generated (in plain text, can't be changed)

In this configuration, the reply to in the email is the bounces address, not the replies address.

If, on step 2 I don't check the Track Replies option, I can select sending email addresses I've already set up.  I haven't added replies@example.com there because it seems like it shouldn't be.  And if I don't check Track Replies, the replies won't be tracked, right?

I've upgraded to 4.1.3 and there is much improvement but I still have questions.

The "reply-to" still comes through as the bounces@example.com address, however if I check both the autoreply and the forward replies option, they both work when the "bounces" cron job fires.  That's great.

However under no circumstances does it seem that the reply is actually processed into an activity.  In fact, if I don't check the forward replies option, any reply will disappear into a black hole, not forwarded to the original sender nor processed into an activity in CRM.  That can't be right, can it?

I still must be missing something...

I dont think the docs ever say that replies are processed as an activity.

The autoreply basically just sends out the standard reply message to the sender. It does not store the reply in the DB (from a quick glance at the DB)

Hi Donald, very nice to meet you in SF.

Obviously I am still on the Civi learning curve, but I'm feeling much better about this after your response.  But I'm obviously confused:

There is an option called Track Replies, with the description "Recipients' replies are sent to a CiviMail specific address instead of the sender's address so they can be stored within CiviCRM.".  If they are not stored as an activity, where are replies stored?
