Best way to track who entered an event

If we have several users in different office locations entering event informatioin- what is the best way to track which user entered an event? I have done this with a custom data field, but is there a better/easier way to do this?

CiviCRM does not keep track of who creates what objects (except for contact), so your best bet is a custom field. At some point in time we need to do this for the high level objects and base some permissioning based on who created what
