Disappearing Event

I just attempted to retrieve a list of participants from an event I hosted this morning and I am unable to locate it using any search feature in CiviCRM?!

The event is listed as an activity within the contact record, but clicking through does not yield a result; I am taken to the Manage Events page. What makes it more odd is that the record exists in the database.

Realised that the event had been created with a 'pipe' symbol in the event name - known to cause issues with the 'search lookups' in some pages. Changed this in the database to a dash.

I can access the event information page directly by altering the address to contain the event id. I can now search for the event directly on the manage events page, however the 'standard' search all or by date range does not return the event record.
