Profile Fields missing in event registration form

Searched for hours for an answer to this:
I have created an event which is for kids, and requires some custom information during online regsitration.
I created custom field sets.
Added fields.
Created a new profile.
Added fields from the custom field set to the profile.
Use for is "Participants"
In Event Manager/Configure/Online Registration the profiles show up. (I actually have three profiles with custom fields I want to use, as information for the children (additional participants) is different from the parent/guardian (participant #1). When the profiles are added it looks like only fields that are part of a 'new individual' actually show on the registration form. None of the additional custom fileds display.
Any clues? I've read and re-read the documentation, etc. etc.
Stumped!
Appreciate any help.

Hi John,
the basic sounds good, and works in general (just done it yesterday with the CiviCRM Euro sprint on the CiviCRM site). So there is either something not quite right with your profile setup, or maybe your rights? Is there a possiblity to view your configuration?

This problem is persisting and getting worse for me. (And i didn't realize that I have to opt in for notification of replies to this post!)

Do you mean you want a screen shot of the configuration? or do you want to log in somewhere or see some other file I could send to you?

Can't really add enough pictures here to show you what's going on... I'll try one.

Hi John,
I meant logging in somewhere with enough rights to have a look. It is hard to judge if anything is wrong with the config from some screen prints :-)

I have had a fist look, and can not find anything obviously wrong. The only pointer I can give is try to create the Child and Waiver as 'generic' profiles rather than for the 'Additional Participant'....see if that works.

The other alternative is to dig into the site a little deeper and do some debugging. I do not know if you have the skills required for that, or if someone in your organisation has such skills?

I don't see any setting for 'Generic" relating to profiles. The 'additional participant' area is set in the registration configuration - i.e. profile to use on additional participant pages, as opposed to first person actually doing the registration.
I've tried setting the custom fields used in profiles to "Individual", "Participant" "Participant/Specific Event". The fields show up as available for profiles, but don't show on the registration pages when the profile is selected.
Also followed advice I read somewhere to make all fields in one profile and even in two profiles used in the same page as the same kind of field (ie. all Individual or all Participant, but that didn't make any difference either.

Seems the machine is broken, not the operator?
