Decluttering summary screen - collapse preferred language, greeting, addressee..
June 20, 2012, 05:00:33 pm
A couple of clients have commented that the Summary screen loses a lot of prime space to the
- Privacy
- Preferred Method
- Preferred Language
- Email format
- Email Greeting
- Postal Greeting
- Addressee

The feedback is that these fields are rarely of interest - much less so that then inline Custom Fields sets that they push down the screen.

I don't believe there is anything in the UI to control this - and am reluctant to deal with this via tpl each time.

What would be involved in having
- a UI setting to switch this fieldset between Collapsed and Expanded?

I reckon that would not be so hard to do, and it definitely makes sense!!! Add it as a feature request to the Issue Tracker? It might be picked up at one of the coming sprints....

Thanks for the support
Interestingly another client just this afternoon leant over and pointed to exactly those fields and asked what could be done to 'reduce' them

Luckily it is just a line in the template :-)

It is going to be more than a single line if the community/core team agree to a change but require that as well as making that set of fields (and I doubt it is really a 'set') both collapsible, we add a setting in Display Settings to say
- expand/collapse the xxxxxxx set of fields
(xxxx needs to be a term to cover Communication/Language Preferences and Greetings etc)

Agree Pete! If nothing happens before that time I will try to give it some attention at the Euro Sprint in September

i think the following needs to happen:

Modify the settings here:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/setting/preferences/display?reset=1

So in addition to enabling / disabling a specific component, we should also add a weight so folks can re-order where things are displayed

Agree, that would be a good spot for the setting. It will then be default collapse/expand and order of the components in the contact summary and form.

Hi Just wondering about this ticket - I know we had some discussions in Bristol about decluttering this Summary Screen and there were some other suggestions about having it so blocks could be assigned to different regions etc.

But hoping not to lose any momentum on this particular task - especially the one for just collapsing the CommsPrefs set of fields. I see ticket is pushed back to 2.4 - is that because it is now being seen as part of a bigger reshuffle?
