SSL problem

I have a donation page on a Joomla 1.5.25 site with CiviCRM 3.2.3.  If I browse to it with https, I get a HTTP error 500 (From my logs - 99.63.46.174 - - [20/Jun/2012:21:31:54 -0400] "GET /index.php?option=com_civicrm&view=Contributions&Itemid=201 HTTP/1.1" 500 5594 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_7_4) AppleWebKit/536.5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/19.0.1084.56 Safari/536.5" ).  I can browse to all of my other pages with https and the certificate is valid. If I try to enable Force Secure URLs (SSL) in Resource URLs, I get the error "You need to set up a secure server before you can use the Force Secure URLs option."

Any ideas how to fix this?

Are all the pages you are testing using the exact same domain? Meaning all use www.site.com or site.com ? Because some SSL's only cover one or the other, not both.
