How to debug membership creation issues
June 22, 2012, 07:49:25 am
I'm trying to get a membership form set up.

I've got a Contribution page defined with a profile to collect some information about the member.  Links to Paypal for the payment. System goes to Paypal, takes the money, then bounces me to a random  Personal Contribution Page with the error "Your profile is not saved and Account is not created.". Same in Paypal or credit card payments.

Any ideas how I debug this?

Try upgrading to the latest civi version, no point hunting a bug that might already be solved

If still having the problem, does it has the same behaviour if you use the test url (kinda less expensive debugging sessions ;) ?

Don't recall if it's a post of get to paypal. But display the params of the form/link on the page before the payment (I like web developer extension that has several options to display all the fields in the page).

Does it have a return url as one of the parameters? This might contain your "random return page".

OK the story so far ..
Currently on CiviCRM 4.1.2 so I don't think version is an issue
Testing on the Paypal sandbox gives the same issue
I created a new Membership contributions page with no associated profile - seems to work OK (at least, it gives me the Receipt page and creates a CiviCRM user
I then modified the Contribution page to include the Name and Address profile, works OK
My main membership form includes a complex profile page (30 fields to gather a lot of information about the user) - on payment I get bounced to the home page. If I go back to my Join page I get the  "Your profile is not saved and Account is not created." error message. Issue seems therefore to relate to my profile page. Is there a limit on what I can put on one page? Anything else I should be aware of relating to profile pages?

Currently on CiviCRM 4.1.2 so I don't think version is an issue

Upgraded to 4.1.3 and my user gets created. And what's more I even get a Joomla user created WOOHOO!

Sorry to waste people's time
