Changing membership type - fixed so its broken

Someone "Fixed" renewal so that a member (say, a $49 a year regular member) can now choose other membership types such as "Free Student Membership" and "Emeritus" etc.. when self renewing. Is there a way to turn off this "fix" such that they can only self renew as the SAME membership type?
