Email not sent to users with same domain as website

Hi - this has me a bit confused. Any ideas?

CiviCRM is set up, and send emails perfectly using the standard PHP mail() function to everyone, but ....

... it will not send to anyone whose email address is on the same domain as the CiviCRM install.

eg. http://mycivicrminstall.com/

email to joe@anyoldemail.com works fine.

email to bob@mycivicrminstall.com fails.

I was thinking DNS, but DNS seems to be set fine with MX records on the problem showing that DNS points to the correct email server, and there is no reason that I can see that would make CiviCRM attempt to deliver mail to the localhost mail server. The server name is actually 'server1.somethingelsecompletely.com' anyway.

I have other websites and CMSes that mail to their respective domains without any problem.

Civil doesn't care about the domain.  Almost sure it's your mail server. Check the log

Try a tiny standalone PHP file and see if mail() works there. If not, then it's a server configuration issue, not a CiviCRM one.
