Hey vshout,

I'm not an expert and I have just recently started using civi, but I think I can point you in the right direction.

You will need to set up a profile, a set of the data that you want to record in the sign up form. Administer >> Custom data and screens >> Profiles. As part of the profile you can add an option for users to select which groups(mailing lists) they want to be part of.

Once a profile is set up you will have to set up a contribution page. Contributions >> Manage contribution pages >> Add new. You will have to go through all of the required tabs and settings here. There will be an option to allow for a free signup, under the Amounts tab. There is a profiles tab that allows you to attach the profile you created earlier.

I hope this answers your question.

Leonard

hi - you don't need to use a contribution page just to let someone sign up via a Profile

you might find the section on Double Opt-in and Newsletter subscriptions via Profiles here useful http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/How+to+Create+Profiles

Hi there,

Thanks for your replies. I actually have created a profile and then a form, which i have included on the site. However, when i try to sign up after click 'submit' it takes me to the wordpress backend login page, instead of completing the subscription.

hope that make sense. i just dont know why is not doing the redirection (confirmation page) nor the record of the data in the group associated to that profile

thanks again for ur help
