Saving changes to address etc in Notes
February 26, 2008, 04:17:52 pm
Hi all - I know I have raised the issue of the 'Change Log' not recording details of, for example, a change to a phone number (and yes, to answer a much earlier question, I do think this is a regular feature in many CRMs).
We are still trying to think our way around a work around, and just wondered if anyone could shed light on what would be involved in adding a new 'save' option on the summary page so that as well as 'Save' and 'Save and New' it also has a "Save and Add Note" - which would not automatically 'log the change' (i accept this is a big shift in the system) but at least automatically opens up the persons Notes page so that the change can be immediately entered.
WOuld be administratively easier and therefore more likely to be done.

WOuld that be an easy tweak? Any better ideas?

peter:

1. can you give us some links to some CRM's which implement this feature. I'd be interested in reading their material on this, which might give us some ideas on how to do this relatively cheaply. I'm more interested in the online CRM's (salesforce, sugar, kintera, convio etc)

2. that said, i think it might be relatively easy to capture the change in your changelog by serializing the input parameters to a "create/update" and storing them as part of the change log set. The more difficult issue is making sense of the serialized data for the end user and potentially using that data in a rollback All these operations will be a wee bit db intensive :)

3. "Save and Add Note" can follow the exact same model as "Save and New". It just needs to redirect the user to the new note url (e.g: http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/view/note?action=add&cid=2) for that contact and potentially fill in the subject line (extra hack would be needed for this one in the note add form).
