CiviContribute and Profile Fields Bug in 2.0?
February 26, 2008, 07:26:10 pm
I noticed that the online donation page in my CiviCRM 2.0 installation seems to be behaving erratically. I have profile fields for several key Primary Individual contact fields (First Name, Last Name, Address, Supplemental Address 1, City, State, Zip, Country).

This is a fresh install of CiviCRM 2.0 without any contact data in it just yet.  When someone donates through the online donation form (PayPal Standard) it sometimes places the profile fields into a new contact and other times it creates a new contact leaving those profile fields empty (if not always).  It always seems to get First Name, Last Name, E-mail Address, and Billing Address info, but that's from the PayPal IPN (since the Primary address fields are still blank).

That said, two questions:

1) Shouldn't it always be placing the information from the profile fields into new contacts when no matching contact is found?
2) What should it be doing with the data from those profile fields when a matching contact IS found?

Thanks!

1. not sure how you are testing it, but if you are testing from the same browser as anonymous, the results might be a bit erratic since it depends on when the session was last refreshed etc.

2. yes, all the information should always go into either a new contact (or existing contact if we are reusing one)

if you can reproduce parts of this on our demo server that would be great. please give us exact steps on how to do so

we'll be doing some testing and more QA on our part regarding this later today (before a beta3 release)

Hi,

I had what seems like similar symptoms but the fields not being populated were custom data fields I had created. It turned out I needed to edit the Drupal permissions on those customs data fields

Actually - I think I have the same problem. Someone just enrolled in a class & payed by Paypal and the compulsory custom data fields in the enrolment profile associated with the event were empty afterwards. I will have to try to replicate it but not right now.

Here's some more info.

1) Regardless of whether I'm logged in or not, both the contact that's added to CiviCRM and the receipt always receive the first and last name data.  The other contact fields that I've included in the profile don't always seem to come through.  From personal experience, I've only seen it get the rest of the profile fields whenever I'm logged into Joomla as an admin.  Considering that our donors will not be doing that (or even logging in for that matter) in many cases, it seems like it should still be able to gather their info correctly.  Perhaps that's the bug - that 2.0 currently requires you to be logged in to collect profile data.

Are the other profile fields always visible?

Yes. They're always visible. I've filled them out when donating while not logged in too. But in those cases, it does not populate them with my responses.

Lobo, unfortunately it is still an issue in beta 3. It's also affecting thank you receipts as per another recent post of mine.

I could not reproduce this on the demo machine via a not logged in user donation.

Check:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/view?reset=1&cid=108 (which was the test anon donation)
http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/view?reset=1&cid=105 (which was the donation via logged in demo user)
http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&action=preview&id=1 (the contribution page with 2 custom fields at the bottom)

Can you please reproduce this issue on demo and let me know how. Note that the demo machine does *not* send any emails. So you will not get an email (this is to avoid spam issues)

thanx

lobo, I'm not sure if it matters, but I saw this problem in a Joomla environment. I'll test it again.
