Can anyone help clarify a few sentences/terms for translation?
July 05, 2012, 07:44:38 am
Hello all

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but here goes:

I am working on translating to Danish. I am on the last 3% of the Common Base and there are a few terms/sentences, which I don't know how to interpret usually because the sentence is too short. Usually there is enough text that I can infer the meaning even when I might not have come accross the term in my own use of Civi. Can anyone help with info on where these terms are used/how to understand them?  ???

The list:

Target Contact(s) in Group (Target = verb or noun?)

Member Dues  (Refers to how much a member owes in payments?)

Redaction Rule (Redaction = Merge?)

Summary Overlay (Definition?)

Canvass  (Where is this used?)

Date Pending  (Pending = verb or noun? what is the circumstance in which it is used?)

Pending (by %1) (same q as above)

Activity Date Time (is this Activity Date/Time?)

Repetition Frequency Unit (Where is this used?)

Repetition Frequency Interval (Where is this used?)

End Frequency Unit (End = verb or noun?)

End Frequency Interval (End = verb or noun?)

Any and all input much appreciated  :)

Hi - exciting to hear about your great progress in translations. As an aside, would be great to have some folks working with Danish sites at CiviCon in London and at the code sprint in Apeldoorn, Netherlands this September!

Explanations (hopefully) below:
Target Contact(s) in Group (Target = verb or noun?)
Target is a verb. This label is used in Relationships pane of Advanced Search. The associated help I think explains it ...
"Use this filter to limit search results to relationships where the related contacts are part of a specific group or groups. For example, you might want to find all individuals who are employees ('Employee of' relationship type) of organizations which are in your 'Corporate Sponsors' group."

Member Dues (Refers to how much a member owes in payments?)
This is a sample "contribution type" which might be assigned to contributions that represent payment of membership fees (fees or dues are often interchangeable terms)

Redaction Rule (Redaction = Merge?)
Redaction is the process of replacing sensitive data (such as client names, locations, etc.) with code strings. CiviCase allows you to redact some information in reports and emails sent about cases to protect privacy of the case clients / case information.

Summary Overlay (Definition?)
This is a reserved profile used to define the fields that appear in a "pop-up box" (or "overlay") when user holds their mouse over the contact icons which appear on the left side of search result listings.

Canvass  (Where is this used?)
One type of survey - used by advocacy groups or political campaigns to determine constituents attitudes about issues, candidates etc.

Date Pending  (Pending = verb or noun? what is the circumstance in which it is used?)
Pending is an adjective in this case. This is the date that a contact's request to join a group was originally submitted WHEN that request is in a pending status.  Contact status in a group is pending when they have not yet confirmed their request to join via the double opt-in process.

Pending (by %1) (same q as above)
The pending request to join the group was made by "this" (%1) method. Usually the method will be Web Signup in this case.

Activity Date Time (is this Activity Date/Time?)
Yes.

All the terms below are part of the Schedule Reminders functionality (Administer > Communications > Schedule Reminders) - and specifically the "Repeat" reminders feature. These terms do not appear in the user interface - but are titles assigned to unit of time (hours, days, ...) and how many of them (interval). For example -
"Repeat this reminder very 2 days" - "2" is the frequency interval and "days" is the frequency unit.

Repetition Frequency Unit (Where is this used?)

Repetition Frequency Interval (Where is this used?)

End Frequency Unit (End = verb or noun?)
Noun ("the end point of the scheduled reminders")

End Frequency Interval (End = verb or noun?)
Noun ("the end point of the scheduled reminders")

Thank you - that has been very helpful!
The overall translation is now at 97%  :)

I have another of the short terms from common base which I came across when correcting smthg else.
File on Case / File On Case --  again, is File to be understood as a verb or a noun? ('File something in a case' or 'this is the file we have on the case')

Thanks again

File is a verb in this context - File the activity to the case / make it part of the case history.
