Granting contacts access to their profiles
July 06, 2012, 03:24:36 pm
I'm sure this is covered somewhere. I'm trying to grant my contacts access to their contact info, events, and mailing lists. Seems like what I want is discussed here http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/Configuring+Front-end+Contact+Dashboard+in+Joomla%21+Sites
But it mentions items in the menu manager which I can't find.

Ultimately I want users to login and register for classes without having to retype their contact info every time. I'd also like them them to be able to edit their contact info and subscribe to mailing lists.

Do I need to delve into ACLs to make this work?

TIA, John

you dont need acl's for this

If they login, their contact info will be filled in with the details in the DB. They can also edit their contact info via profiles etc.

Another option to do this without logging in is via a permissioned checksum which should be described in the civi book

I dont know why those items are not showing up in your menu manager. Would be good if you can investigate and figure out whats happening there and why

Thanks Lobo. I am slowing figuring it out. Couple questions.
  • I see the Synchronize Users to Contacts option. Is there a way to synchronize Contacts to Users?
  • I created a user account for one of my contacts. She can login now and see the profile I specified; but the website breaks with a civicrm-001 non-recoverable error when she tries to access her dashboard. However, I can see my dashboard when I login as the admin. Any ideas?

1. not in civicrm. Might want to check if there is a joomla user import that you can use

2. Might want to read the book: http://book.civicrm.org/user/ I suspect auth users do not have the "access contact dashboard" permission

Yup. One quick change to the permissions was all it took. Cheers.
