Configuring mail accounts - please help

Please could somebody explain to me the difference between an email-to-activity processing mail account and a bounce processing mail account?

I am trying to configure a mail account so I can send mass mailings, but neither our hosters nor the consultant who installed CiviCRM can tell me what the following things are/mean:
Localpart
Return-Path
Source
SSL

I've tried googling but everything assumes a much higher degree of knowledge than I have, so please help me with the layman's guide! I've checked the CiviCRM guides but they either assume you already know what they are, or that you don't need to know because someone is taking care of this for you. Please help!

seem fairly self explanatory for folks familiar with mail protocols. You can also search the web to get more details on those aspects

Thank you for replying but apparently I don't have access to whatever is in that link, and part of the difficulty is that I'm NOT familiar with mail protocols in any whatsoever - please can you point me towards a helpful corner of the internet that will explain what these things are for a complete civilian? Google has so far offered me no joy.
