SMTP "return channel"
February 27, 2008, 06:37:25 am
Piotr has been trying to help us resolve an Outlook 2003/2007 encoding issue. As we don't think the issue is related to CiviSMTP, specifics about it are posted in the CiviMail section of this forum.

Piotr asked the following question that we think IS related to CiviSMTP:
He asks: "what are you using for the return channel? AMaViS,  imap2soap or something else?".

We don't know what we are using or how to figure that out. Can you help?

Also, I'd like to include the rest of his comments just in case there is any connection to CiviSMTP and our issue:
He said:
"I'll do my best to take a look at how can you patch the infrastructure to handle uu-encoded emails.
My current quick idea is that the decoding should be done on either the mail transport agent or the filter level, not in CiviMail itself."

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Cynthia

I am not sure what is meant by "return channel".

we do not use amavis or imap2soap.  we use qpsmtpd and dump the emails in a mysql db where they are picked up by workers which make a soap call to your server.

Apologies for causing the confusion – I totally forgot Cynthia is using CiviSMTP for handling CiviMail, hence my questions on how is the SMTP level handled. :( All is clear to me now.

Ok, I commented in the original thread describing the issue. Shane, can you reply to that thread?
