What I want to be able to do is search individual records based on the postcode or region in which they live. Many records in our database have two addresses specified, one for where they're actually based, and one for a postal forwarding address (e.g. students' parent's addresses). Several different address types are used in our system (e.g. home, work, uni, main), but which address to send postal mailings to for each record is specified using the "Primary Address" tick-box. This means that, if I want to search for people who actually live in a given region or postcode, I have to search all five-or-so address-types separately, with an extra search term to exclude forwarding addresses. This gets incredibly tedious, especially if I want to search over multiple postcodes as well. Any ideas about how to make these location-based searches more succinct to carry out?

might want to consider writing a custom search as described here:
