Permissions question about viewing contact information

I am new to CIVI and am setting it up for our organisation which has 2 sub projects. Its definitely just what we want, just one issue:

Managers want to view all contact information. Staff of project A should only be able to view information about project A service users, staff of project B should only be able to view information about project B service users. It may happen that a contact could be a service user of both projects.

Before I promise segregated access to the managers, can someone confirm it will be possible to do this with CIVICRM and a Joomla 2.5 install? CIVI offers everything we need, so I'll be VERY dissapointed if we can't do this ...  I don't know Drupal and am relying on other Joomla components for document distribution (Remository) so please don't advise switching to Drupal unless absolutely necessary..

I've just read the documentation on this - looks like there's no problem with this. Might have posted a bit rashly (unless some wise sage out there knows any vulnerabilities on this?)

can you please report back if ACLs work for you in Joomla.

I'm not sure if anyone has used that functionality w/ joomla. so good to get some feedback

in general being disappointed does not really help anyone. We do need more joomla developers contributing back to the project
