Cannot run the installer
July 14, 2012, 06:17:38 pm
I'm developing a site using Drupal 7 in a directory called 'develop' on a VPS hosted by WebhostingUK. I'm following the civiCRM installation instructions on the wiki. I've got as far as Step 5 "run the installer" but when I put in the URL I just get 'page not found' errors.
In the cPanel file manager I can see that the sites/all/modules/civicrm/install/index.php file is there and CIVICRM is listed under modules in Drupal (but not yet enabled). I've checked
I've tried every combination of URL path that I can think of and still get page not found ..... grrrrhhhhh!  Very frustrating for a novice as after a couple of hours of this I just don't know what else to try! Any suggestions very gratefully received.
Thanks, Shirley

Hi. If your Drupal site is accessible via mysite.com/develop then the install URL is mysite.com/sites/all/modules/civicrm/install/index.php

If that URL fails, you should ask your host why.

Thank you for your clarification. I lodged a support ticket with WebhostingUK this afternoon and the problem is now fixed. I confess I didn't entirely understand their reply (which for completeness I've copied below) but I take it to mean that access permissions on the URL file path was the problem. Anyway it's now fixed and I'd successfully installed civiCRM.

I appreciate the help as a non-developer/technical person, sometimes everything gets just a bit too confusing!

....support response was:
"Going through the logs I see following error.
SoftException in Application.cpp:256: File "/home/shirleyr/public_html/develop/sites/all/modules/civicrm/install/index.php" is writeable by group
As your server has SUEXEC enabled and php is running in suphp environment maximum permission files should have is 6464 and file should have 644.
I have corrected permission on file /home/shirleyr/public_html/develop/sites/all/modules/civicrm/install/index.php and directory "sites" and "all"

Try installing civiCRM now."
