Updating case custom data via a webform
July 20, 2012, 11:39:33 am
Hello,

We are modelling a two stage application process. Both stages are completed by the filling in of webforms.  The first stage creates a case when the webform is submitted. We want people to update the case when they fill in the second webform.

Currently webform civicrm has the following checkbox (which we've ticked):

Quote
If a "Application" case with this status already exists for this contact, the activity will be added to that case. Otherwise a new case will be opened with this status.

We are really keen on extending this so that you can also access the custom data that is attached to the case.  i.e you can view it in the webform when you are completing it, and when it is submitted, it updates the case.

I've noticed that there is checkbox text for the activity that says
Quote
If a "Meeting" activity with this status already exists for contact 1, it will be updated.
which seems to be describing the desired behaviour for activities.  That makes me think it might not be too hard to implement for case as well but it would be good to get some advice from someone that knows.

I have done some initial digging but it is home time / the weekend now so I'll pick this up again on Monday or thereabouts.

Michael
