new userinterface
July 21, 2012, 03:27:18 am
i am a experienced php developer and new to civicrm
i am very much excited by looking at the features of civicrm
i m just started exploring the features of civicrm one by one

but the thing i am not liked in civicrm is the userinterface with simple textboxes and radio buttons

i wnat to change the look and feel of civicrm to the one like(eg: easymemberpro dot com <got to online demo>)

so i wanted ask is there any prebuilt themes/templates which is very cool and nice to see apart from civi default theme..

if not how can i start with customised css design..?

please civi crm experts help...

Might want to check the free Civi books, http://book.civicrm.org/ specifically the developer book.

You can incorporate your own css and help customize the look for your needs

you might get more input if you can clarify the sort of differences you are looking to achieve - eg do the set up on that other system and take a screenshot that you have annotated with comments that explain the changes you were able to achieve on their system

i can't see anything there that can't be done using a civicrm profile - please either be more specific - or ask 'how to do something' - or check out the book etc. Sorry for sounding blunt but I am wondering if you are just here to promote that other solution.

as i clearly specified in my first message i want to implement a custom user interface which is looking cool and nice otherthan civicrm default theme...
so i asked is there any prebuilt themes/templates for civicrm which will change the look and feels how we can directly install in joomla..

i wanted to know this before starting with my own customisation and  development....apart from these design customisation i wanted implement some more functionalitys for civicrm(offline payment, that ill discuss later)

hence i gave an a simple ex of that membership script which is very neat to see..

And not sure about Joomla but with Drupal we can use the themes we have set up for the Drupal site so the options are endless if you are talking about colours / fonts etc rather than the structure of the form

well i hope someone with joomla template knowledge can advise you - nothing i can suggest - it might still help if you add a screenshot that you annotate (write on and add arrows) to indicate what specific types of things you are wanting to change - the more specific you ask the more people are likely to help

Thaks a lot for your valuable feedback Mr petednz

Now i ll Write the Actual Requirment...
I want to develop a CRM solution for one of the nonprofit organization which working in throughout the countery(india) to help for poor students to pursue their education who are unable to do due to financial problems..

there are registered members under this organisation who have to renew their membership every year by paying small amount of Rs 20 INR(0.4 USD)...
every year  this was going manually by paper forms..

since i am also a member of this organization i want to automate this..

what i thought is we can generate the coupans worth 20 INR..each member should buy this coupon code before registration manually  (we cannot keep online payment since most of the members are middle class family and not having credit cards)and they should put this coupan code while registering...

hence member regurgitation is done at the end user...hence we should keep this in frontend..

and i need a proper validation to differentiate the member types based on their date of birth..(that means those are above age 40 are should be senior members e.tc)..

finally this organization publishes monthly magazine and the subscription cost for this is 100 INR(2.0 USD) annually...
hence the admin should able to add the subscription for new subscribers based on the period of subscription(1year,2year,5 yaers)with expiry date taken automatically..

this is a brief about my total requirment...
since i am experienced in both joomla and drupal i want the suggestions and helps which may be irrespective of platform(joomla/drupal)..
i am thankful to all civi experts who ll assist me to accomplish this project bcoz i am the only developer for this project

Thanks a lot

Sounds like a great project - good luck - i am totally biased. Drupal offers several areas where the integration between the front end and back end can be optimised for the user eg using Views, Webform, and more complex permissioning (I think but joomlites can tell me off)
So if you expect a fair amount of online engagement by users - and you don't have any other reason for preferring the CMS I would suggest Drupal
