Remove vs delete for a contact from a group

What happens If I am in a group tab of a contacts record and I click on delete instead of remove.  I can't find any explanation of what I might have done in the documentation.

Information greatly appreciated

When you remove someone from a group, it keeps a record that they're a former member of the group.  If you delete someone from a group, it's as if they had never been added to the group to begin with.

Would be good to add this to the documentation. Maybe as a patch to the current documentation?
