We are using the Authorize.net ARB subscription service to create recurring contributions. We only want to donors to receive a e-mail receipt for the first payment made, but then not receive the receipts for each following month. (We only send out year-end stuff.)

Does anyone know a way to suppress the following email receipts from Civi?

No option for only send first email and skipp all subsequent emails. The current option is to send an email receipt or not for a contribution page which applies to all contribution pages

That said, you can potentially do this via the mail alter hook and detect if this is due to a recurring contribution and if its the second or later contribution
