Event mapping [SOLVED - sort of]
August 01, 2012, 12:43:23 pm
I just noticed that event mapping is broken on my site.  Not something I do every day, so I don't really know how long its been an problem.

I also can't seem to getting it working on either the demo or sandbox sites.  These URLS should have maps, no?:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=3
http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/map/event?eid=3&reset=1

http://sandbox.drupal.civicrm.org/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=1
http://sandbox.drupal.civicrm.org/civicrm/contact/map/event?eid=3&reset=1

I did a quick search on the forum and issues queue, but I didn't have time to really search thoroughly.  Seems bizarre that no one has noticed for a couple versions at least.  Which makes me wonder if there's been a change that I just missed.

So is this a bug, or does it just work differently than it used to?  If the latter, could someone please point me to some info?

Thanks.

Mapping is an option in the event configuration screens on a per event basis. So make sure that is enabled

Check:

Thanks.  I should have been more detailed in my post.

I have mapping set for my events.  I just re-turned-on mapping for events on the demo and sandbox, but still don't get maps on the expected links.

Ok, I have partially figured out what is going on.  Recording here in case someone else gets stumped by this.

It appears that maps will not display in chrome (mac) on secure (https) pages.  Seems ok in other browsers and also ok for non-secure versions of the page in chrome.

Earlier today I couldn't get the maps to appear on either the demo or sandbox sites, but now they both work (by referring me back to the non-secure url).  On my site however, if I'm logged in, the secure url is used and the map doesn't display.

Again, it seems to work fine on other browsers and/or when I'm not logged in.

Not exactly a solution, but a relief I suppose, that the vast majority of people visiting the site will see the maps displayed correctly.

can u investigate and figure out why chrome on https does not allow this? I suspect its probably a known issue and there must be a workaround or something that we are doing wrong

I just discovered the same problem, did not see in the past so it may have been introduced in a Chrome update.  Here is the reference for what's going on in Chrome (not sure if it applies for other OS's):

https://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1342714

If I click on the shield in in the url bar and select "show anyway", subsequent maps display but with a broken lock denoting secure and non-secure content.

This problem still seems to occur if the site is HTTPS; in Internet Explorer, I'm prompted to decide whether I want to display "only the content that was delivered securely."

Google Maps API can be used over HTTPS; maybe there's a way to work with that?
