DB Error when trying to add an address to a contact
August 02, 2012, 02:59:47 am
I just installed civicrm on my wordpress page. Install went fine and also all the configurations.

Now that I try to add a new contact, I can add a contact, but if I try to an address I get the following error:

"Sorry. A non-recoverable error has occurred.
DB Error: value count on row"

I would like to use german localisation, but it doesn't work in english eighter, so that can't be the probem. Appart from that there is nothing that seems to be wrong. Only thing that I can think of: I changed the name of the default contact categories.

Any Ideas?

Greetings chuelibrueder

You could try making the same modification ("changed the name of the default contact categories") on the public demo and see if that recreates the error.

I couldn't reporduce the error in the demo. I removed civicrm, droped all the tables and reinstalled civicrm. Now it seems to work. This time I chose to install the demo-data or whatever it's called. Maybe that did the trick.

Anyway, it works now, even though I don't know why.

Okay, now I know what's causing this: As soon as I enable the geocoding, saving Addresses doesn't work anymore. When ever I try to save an Address I get the above mentioned error.

There's only google available in the drop-down-list so there is nothing I can do wrong with that.

What's a bit strange is the fact, that as soon as I enable google as geocoding provider the API key field disapears. Is this supposed to be the case? I assumed that geocoding with google doesn't need an API key, or am I supposed to enter the API key before selecting google?

Anyway, it's eighter very unintuitive or there is something wrong entirely. It's okay for me, since don't really know what I would be using geocoding for anyway.

I'm not sure geocoding itself is the problem, because the error to me sounds more like geocoding ist not able to write the result to the db.

Hope this helps the developers.

Thanks for digging in a bit more. Google geocoding does not require an API key - so the behavior on that configuration form is correct.

I tested on our Wordpress demo - turned on Google geocoding and added a new contact - and it seems to be working fine (at least with a United States address):

http://wordpress.demo.civicrm.org/wp-admin/admin.php?page=CiviCRM&q=civicrm/contact/view&reset=1&cid=104

Maybe you could test on the demo with a similar address to the ones you were using that caused problems.
