Add multiple files (to Contribution)
August 02, 2012, 06:36:54 am
Hi,

I believe that it's (supposed to be) possible to add a reoccurring custom field group, such that any number of files can be added to a record, as mentioned here:

http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,10675.msg45900.html#msg45900

But I can't find a way to turn that option on. I am trying to allow any number of files to be added to a Contribution record (as a stop-gap way of storing the associated information leading up to an incoming grant.)

Is this possible??  ???

Ah - this only seems to be an option for Constituent (Ind/HH/Org) screens - is there are reason that this couldn't be used in the same way for other areas? There often seem to be cases where it would be useful to store a bunch of files relating to something, for example.

We might want to consider adding files (attachments) to an object as a more specific case of multiple custom field groups.

Multiple custom field groups functionality is still in its infancy for contacts and would be good to add a few more features, like allowing an import into it, exposing the fields to profile etc before expanding it to other objects

Interested in taking the lead in developing this functionality?

I'd love to make this happen - I'm not quite at the point where I could do it efficiently, yet, though. When they day comes, I would *really* like to help.

As a vague feeling, do you think that it would be a major job to take this functionality from the Contact section and drop it into the other sections? If it seems feasible without major rewrites I will endeavor to investigate the code.

i dont think its major, but there are a few pieces to it, so in the current state i'd suspect its a 15-40 hour job for someone to do it

Adding attachments to an object is probably a much smaller job, since that is fairly well abstracted, and i suspect thats a 3-10 hour job
