Shared codebase/separate databases
August 02, 2012, 03:50:56 pm
I have a multi-site Drupal/Civicrm site up (separate drupal/civi installs, separate databases).

Now, what I would like to do is use one of the existing civi codebases but use it with an additional (separate) database (it's critical that the two databases remain totally separated as this is part of a research project).

Is this possible?

I know that I can just create a separate site, but it will mean recreating the same site twice, which seems silly and inefficient.  Plus our server does not support the subdomain requirements (that the document root point to the primary site) so I need to get yet another domain which also seems silly.

The only information I can find seems both out of date and incomplete (at least for a newbie like me).

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC40/CiviCRM+for+Drupal+-+Configure+Multi-site+Installations

If anyone can point me in the right direction (or tell me that it would be smarter just to create a new site) I would truly appreciate it.

Thank you!

Eileen

What you are looking for is a drupal multisite - that's what shared codebase is called in drupal-land - e.g http://drupal.org/node/43816/
Make today the day you step up to support CiviCRM and all the amazing organisations that are using it to improve our world - http://civicrm.org/contribute

Ok, thanks.  I just wanted to make sure there wasn't a way to do it without creating a new site before I went through that process.

Thank you!
