MySQL 5.6
August 06, 2012, 04:33:31 am
My site is running:

Joomla! 2.5.6 Stable
MySQL 5.5.24
Php 5.3.13
CiviCRM 4.1.2

I was wondering whether it was possible to upgrade MySQL to version 5.6?

regards
Simon

Hi. Is there a certain reason you have for wanting 5.6? Some new feature or something?

Yes there is. In MySQL 5.6 searching spatial data now is done geometrically other than by mbr/envelope. So, I can find say a census tract which actually contains a specific point. This is not possible before MySQL 5.6.

Thanks.

Do you know if any tests have been run by the CiviCRM developers against the new version or if the new version will be supported in the next release? I'm on CiviHosting shared services so updating myself won't be possible. I can certainly try it on a standalone VM.

Simon

The odds are low of anyone testing in the near future yet high that it will just work. You could certainly test it fairly easily.

None of the developers we know of are using 5.6 and highly unlikely that any of us will upgrade anytime soon

Is 5.6 main stream as yet? Seemed fairly hard to find it on the mysql.com pages
