Importing Soft Credits
August 06, 2012, 03:24:32 pm
Using CiviCRM 4.1.5 under WordPress 3.4.1. I was doing an update import of contributions to add the soft credits that didn't get imported when my client did the first contribution import (they didn't have the data). They all bomb.

These were all contributions made by Organizations, with soft credits that were supposed to go to either Households or Individuals - essentially they were matching corporate gifts. I indicated import type of Update and contact type of Organization on the first import screen.

ON the next screen I matched on the Contribution ID to find the right contribution record.
I assigned the soft credit to the correct Household or Individual using the Contact Id of the Household or Individual.

None of the records imported, and the error was "Soft Credit Contact Type is wrong: Individual" for individuals and a similar message for households. It's as if the system is requiring the contact type of the entity getting the Soft Credit to be the same as the contact type as the entity making the gift, which isn't the case here. It was a small number of records so we worked around it by manual input and importing directly into the Contributions - Soft table using PHPMyAdmin, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Hi there,

I've experienced this!  I think I've submitted a bug report or posted on the forums...but I can't be sure.

Yes, I've experienced this.   Importing soft credits with mixmatched contact types (individual with a credit to an org, for instance) is not currently possible in CiviCRM 4.1.  There is a bug report on this - I filed it.

I worked around this by updating the soft credit manually in the MySQL database using an import of CSV data directly into mySQL, as you did.

I'm not sure on the plans to fix this bug, but if you contribute to the ongoing support MIH chances are it will get fixed sooner rather than later.
