Change Google Map Markers?

Is there a way to change the default map marker image?  The one included in core is very hard to see when the location is close to water.

Please advise

Hmmm I suppose you could check the module that calls the Google API but you will have to dig a little. Alternative is to use your own Google API link? (https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/staticmaps/index#URL_Parameters

Where would you enter the API link?  The mapping page has a field for API key but not link...any suggestions?

You can not add the API link in any CiviCRM settings, you would have to customize stuff to use it. The other option is to check the CiviCRM core code and find out where the actual link is and update code there?

The marker for the large google map is here:
/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/i/contact_org.gif

I changed it successfully.

Excellent, thank you very much, however does this not also change the icon for organizations in the civi ui?
