Is there a workaround for non-admin users to view a profile search in Wordpress?
August 10, 2012, 02:55:59 pm
After our new webmaster changed us from Joomla to Wordpress, we were disappointed to see this quote from Lobo and  confirming our findings:

Quote
Due to limited permissioning exposure in wordpress, profile search is not exposed to a non-admin user in wordpress. This will change when a better permissioning model is implemented for the Civi + WP integration

Now we have a few hundred hours of configuring multiple profiles with close to 100 fields and we find this out. We like our Wordpress theme and have 3 subdomains that we really don't want to scrap.

My question is: Is there a workaround for this, is there some way that we can let the public search our member database, we can't even let our members view the data base if it requires admin access. This is for an association.

Any idea when this situation will be resolved so that we can have searches like we did in Joomla.

Just heard about Role scoper - will that work with CiviCRM right now or do we need to wait for further integration?

Am curious of the Permissions for WP upgrade will be available for use with the Members plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/members/. I connected with the developer and his response was:

If ties into WordPress, it should use WP's roles/capabilities system. When that's done properly, the Members plugin will automatically pick it up.

Remember, Members (the roles/caps part) is just a UI for something that already exists in WordPress.

Is that what is planned for implementation here: http://civicrm.org/content/make-it-happen#wpacl

That MIH is quite far from happening and at its current rate is highly unlikely to make it into 4.3

If and when it gets closer to being met, we'll take a closer look at how to implement it. Role Scoper has also been mentioned here.

I also wanted to mention this one: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/adminimize/. It's laid our ore like the permissions in Drupal. But really if permission link in WP default, then any of these permissions plugins should display it.

I hope to be able to contribute with an upcoming project, so hopefully soon!
