Help with installing on local WAMP server
August 12, 2012, 11:14:17 pm
Hi All,

I volunteer for a non-profit, and they want to change their donor management program. CivicCRM is at the top of my list for recommendations and they would like to see it in action. I installed joomla on a WAMPserver. And am having trouble using the extension manager to install the files I downloaded from SourceForge.  Nothing happens, I see 48% then nada, zip, zero!

Thanks in advance.
sophie

Are you following the procedure here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/Joomla+Installation+Guide+for+CiviCRM+4.1 ?

No, not at all.

Are you unzipping the files manually first? If so, what step exactly are you saying fails at 48%?

I tried it several times, using the following file (civicrm-4.1.5-joomla) and when that failed the following (civicrm-4.1.5-joomla-alt) I tried them zipped and unzipped. heh, was getting kind of peeved by this point.

Not sure what you mean by failed, there was no error message just 48% then 72% then nothing. The program just didn't install just says no file.

thanks for the quick reply!

I think this may be the root of the problem, not sure what to do about it... I looked on the extension manager warning page and it says
"Small PHP file upload size
The maximum file size for uploads is set to less than 2MB which may impact on uploading large extensions."

Hmm. I think you're doing it wrong. You should unzip the file into a folder called tmp in your Joomla install. Then follow step 4 of the wiki page very carefully. There should be no file upload involved, because the files are already there.
