Advanced Search problem with "find contacts within"
August 15, 2012, 10:42:22 am
hey folks,

i set up a cron job to regularly geocode the addresses in my database. since i have 200,000 i hit the google limit. i have been running it for a couple of days now.

another user had a smart group set up that used the "find contacts within" field of Advanced Search as one of the defining criteria of the smart group. that smart group had a reasonable number of contacts in it. now though it has all the contacts in the database.

i believe that advanced search is querying google, instead of using the latitude and longitude already stored in the database, and because it does not get any results back, is returning everyone in the database.

has anyone else experienced this?

but the system does need to geocode the address entered in advanced search, and google is probably returning an error which might be messing things up

right, advanced search is needing to geocode the city and state in order to figure out a latitude and longitude in order to be able to do the proximity search. yes. right. misspoke.

the problem is that the google limit has been reached and the google response in such cases is not properly being dealt with in civicrm.

hence, what the smart group does is include everyone in the database?!?!

what should advanced search do in such cases? what should the smart group do?
