New Individual Drupal block won't go away
August 23, 2012, 11:58:38 am
I'm using Drupal 6 version of CiviCRM (4.1).

There is a Drupal block for creating a New Individual. It contains fields for First Name, Last Name, and Email with a save button. It resides in the left sidebar.

I cannot get rid of it.

I have tried disabling the block, restricting it to an unimportant page of the website, etc...

No matter what I do it keeps coming back to the main pages. (Luckily only for me, the Admin, so Role restriction is working.) And it re-appears second block from the top, even though I've tried to move it to last.

It goes away for awhile, but something triggers it to reset.

How do I get rid of the @#$%^& thing?

as far as i know this can only be resolved through the Blocks settings in Drupal. I can't offer a suggestion as to why it keeps coming back unless something in your drupal config is odd.
If you set it to 'none' region for the theme that is used for your civicrm, and if it then is correctly hidden, and then just reappears later on, i think you may need to ask questions on the drupal forums.

peterdnz is of course correct. Go to

admin/build/block

and put it in the Disabled section. But make sure you are looking at the right theme--at the top are tabs for themes if you have more than one.

Turned the block off in both active Themes (even though I only use one).

No joy. The block still comes back, and always to the top of the block list.

Odd and infuriating.

Did you refresh all caches? What other modules do you have on the site?

I don't see anything in the list that looks like it could be responsible, but MySQL 5.0.51a is quite old and known to be buggy. I would certainly recommend upgrading that.

Was this solved? Have a similar problem although it's civi 3.3. But the drupal version is the same (6.26) and the problem seems to have started after we upgraded drupal as part of a php 5.3 upgrade.

I get this problem on civicrm4.2, d6, php 5.3 - although it's never annoyed me enough to investigate.

I can't fully confirm this solves it, but I haven't seen the block come back yet:

Under Administer - Site Building - Themes there's a column of checkboxes for Enabled. I unchecked the box for Garland (it probably shouldn't let me since it's the only one enabled and is the default, but that's another issue).

This causes the configure link for the theme to become hidden, but this particular site doesn't need to change anything in there at the moment.

Nope. That doesn't change anything for me.

New odd behavior, though. The blocks in question come and go. No predictable pattern. No idea what triggers them to go, or come back.

The only possibility I can't rule out is MySQL or PHP weirdness from versions used. (I can't rule it out because our IT people don't know when they will upgrade those to the latest releases.)

Oh, well.

Do you have any custom code? Custom theme?

I would suggest you could try (perhaps on a test site) disabling some of your modules and see if you can determine which one(s) may be causing this.
