Help changing from subdomain to root
August 24, 2012, 07:42:02 am
Please can someone give me a detailed guide how to do this correctly?

It seems there are countless hardcoded locations hidden away that are impossible to find.

I am using joomla

I have changed the settings files
admininstrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm.settings.php
components/com_civicrm/civicrm.settings.php

I changed the resource locations from
Civi backend/Administer/system settings/resource urls
(which is a bit buggy as once you have moved subdomains or to root, the action URL of this form goes to the old site, so you better not have changed the database over otherwise you enter a world of pain)

Anyway, I think this is all, however, civi contacts added via the backend with an image, haven't updated. The db has recorded the absolute path instead of relative for some reason. How can I update this without accessing the database (cab be done, but I would prefer to know the correct way.

Another problem is, civi still loads javascript files from te old location.

As the charity I am helping out have said, "we cannot be the only ones to move from a testing sub domain to an actual site", and I am sure they are not, but I cannot find any info on how to migrate correctly and completely.

Please help

Hi. The docs for migration are here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/Moving+an+Existing+Installation+to+a+New+Server+or+Location

You should delete

<joomla-root>/media/civicrm/civicrm/ConfigAndLog/Config.IDS.ini

and you may want to run

civicrm/admin/setting/updateConfigBackend&reset=1

to reset back end settings when changing URLs.

Thanks Hershel, didn't know about the ids file.

However,
civicrm/admin/setting/updateConfigBackend&reset=1

doesn't appear to  exist on my joomla site. Is it supposed to be work on Joomla?
