Cannot upgrade from 3.4 to 4.1, 'Could not create directory:'
August 24, 2012, 08:49:59 am
Hello,

I am upgrading Civicrm (from 3.4 to 4.1 on D6). I have precisely followed the steps here ( http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC41/Upgrade+Drupal+Sites+to+4.1+-+Drupal+6 ), but when I ty to run the upgrade script
http://www.groenerekenkamer.nl/civicrm/upgrade?reset=1

I get this message:
Error: Could not create directory: /home/theorichel/domains/grkmain.com/public_html/sites/default/files/civicrm/ConfigAndLog/.

plus a message about moving my site.
But nothing has moved, my site is still at the same location while upgrading en de permissions for the file directory are 777. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

TheoRichel

Solved (somewhat??)

I think I have solved this, but maybe not entirely.

I discovered that the 'Files' directory already contained a Civicrm directory, but its attributes were empty (grey in Filezilla). I set them to 777 and ran the thing again. Now it ended with a memory error:
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 94 bytes) in /home/theorichel/domains/grkmain.com/public_html/includes/theme.inc on line 393

But when I went back to Civicrm I got the message: Your database has already been upgraded to CiviCRM 4.1.0

So everything seemd allright and I wonder whether I nevertheless still have a problem?

If the upgrader ended with an error, then yes, the odds are you have a problem. The issue is that we can't know at what point the upgrader failed. So maybe it ran 90% and so the DB "looks" like it was upgraded. You may not figure out what is missing in that other 10% for a while, however.

I would try to restore your DB and run it again.
