Civicrm 4.2 on D6 unofficial
August 27, 2012, 01:32:34 pm
I am very much attracted by the possibility to send out mailings based on expirating memberschip dates and similar in v4.2. but I am on Drupal 6. You people have made a special version of Civicrm 4.2 for D6 but it is not officially supported. I find that confusing. Where can I read about what is changed in this version vs the Drupal 7 version. Will questions about the 4.2 on D6 version be answered here and when can we expect an official version?

Of course I am interested in experiences of people who took this step, but so far I couldnt find anything in the upgrade forum.

I hope to hear from you, many thanks

Not sure what you mean. There is a d6 version of civi4.2 to download on the official sourceforge page, isn't it?

It shouldn't be any issue running it, but if stuff like integration with view of OG don't work, you are very likely to get patch welcomed, unfortunately wasn't possible to gather enough people interested of contributing to the d6 maintenance, hence the not officially supported I suppose that's what you mean?

This being said, quite a few big users are still on d6, you should be in good company if you have a problem that is common to all installs.

The features in 4.2 are exactly the same in all CMSs. So D6 and D7 versions are the same. It's just the integration code (i.e. for D6 user registration pages) which is no longer being maintained, but still *should* work.

Eileen: Anything to watch out for when upgrading? Any D6 bugs in 4.2.0?

I think the d6 version of drush is not as good as the d7 one.

There are some bugs around cron in 4.1 that are not fixed until 4.1.6 / 4.2 so I consider it to be a better option than 4.1.5 bug-wise.

Note that most drupal 6 issues will occur in the integration modules - og sync etc because people patch d7 & forget d6.
