What's the status of importing phone extensions?

I saw in one bug report in the issue tracker that the making it possible to import extensions had been put on hold. Still true? Plans to fix that soon?

Hello reperry,

There should be a way to import your contacts' phone extensions using a custom field.
Go to Administer-->Customize Data and Screens, find a custom field set that's used for individuals, View and Edit Custom Fields. Add a new field called phone extension, Data =number, Field type= text. now select save.

When you import contacts again, you should be able to import phone extensions.

Thanks, Jason. Since there already is a core field for phone extensions, I was wondering whether it was possible to import to that field. It's already built in and in the right place. For now, we're advising folks not to use the field since it's inaccessible via profiles and import/export functions.

Webform supports it :)
Profiles ought to do so pretty soon, especially if you contribute a patch :D

Thanks, Coleman. We do help our clients use webforms when needed. Great functionality! Jamie's got his hands full at the moment, and he's the one with the chops to contribute such a patch. Until then, we'll use webforms if needed or get by without.
