[SOLVE] Accent export
August 28, 2012, 07:54:40 am
Hello,

I just updated my site in joomla 2.5.6 and 4.1.5 for civi
and I have a problem for exports: accents are oddly coded.

In the database, I see that I am utf8_unicode_ci
for civi and utf8_general_ci for joomla

What should I do to not have these problems on accents?

Hi,

Likely the problem is on the reading side.

Try using openoffice/libreoffice and choose utf8 as the encoding

What I do not understand is : that with Civi version 4.2, I did not have this problem.

But with the update 4.5, everything is broken .... Why? What has changed?

Thank you for helping me

4.5 doesn't exist.

What did you upgrade from and to, and what was the version that was working?

Excuse me, I wanted to write civi 4.1.5
I was in 4.1.2 and I updated to 4.1.5

Those I work with have not all Oppenoffice.

With version 4.1.2 there was no problem. Is that something had to change ...

Are you sure it worked before? To my knowledge it has never worked all the time, no matter the version

Technical explanation:

Excel is expecting the csv to be on the local charset (so latin1 in western europe for instance). This means that you can't import different charset, say polish or cyrilic or chinese.

CiviCRM solves that problem by using a standard charset that works for all the existing characters (unicode utf8). Unfortunately, excel doesn't offer the option to set the charset.

The workaround I found is to rename as .txt and then excel let you choose the charset when you open from within excel, or to convince users to install openoffice.

FYI, I have an almost working extension that would solve the problem and export directly in excel, but would need a few hours of funding to finish and make it available to anyone.

I'm sure it worked fine before, I had no problem. But I don't know why !

I would like know what  could cause this problem ...

I'll try .txt
