Automating sets of letters

We use CiviCRM to get signups for our organization.  After someone signs up, we want to send a set of email letters to them to acquaint them with our organization.  Is there a way to automate this?  Something like: seven days after signup, send letter #1; 28 days after signup, send letter #2; etc.
