Merge Custom Search Components with Advanced Search
March 01, 2008, 11:29:47 pm
Hi all,

I managed to build my own Custom Search using the link Dave send me (see http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,2560.0.html).
We can now search contacts on Age and Gender.

Is it possible to 'merge' this custom search with the already existing Advanced Search (like the dropdown forms, such as Event and Contribution)?

Then we could search on Event participation in combination with Age, or Sex in combination with Tags.

Unfortunately not. We need to figure out how to integrate something like that into the "built-in" search feature. That was how the custom search framework started (how to splice in form elements and sql into our query), but it was proving to be a bit too hard for our brains to tackle.

For now you'll have to manage all this on your own :), i.e. in your custom search form

Would be great if you could upload a code (under an open source license) to this wiki page (http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Community+Contributed+Custom+Searches) so other folks can share and add some more examples.

thanx

Hi lobo,

I figured out something else. I first use Search Builder to select all males (Gender=1) and save the results as a Search Group. I do the same for all females.

Next, I go to Advanced Search and now I can combine my Search Group with some event data. So now I can lookup all males who joined event X. Same goes for age groups, I can also create several Search groups for needed age groups. The only point is that I cannot combine several Search groups into 1 query..

I'll try to merge my Search Component with the Advanced search.
I added my Search Component to the wiki: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Search+on+Gender+and+Age
