PHP and MySQL requirements question
August 28, 2012, 02:04:21 pm
My current server config is PHP 5.2 and MySQL 5.0.51a on a Drupal 6 install.

Are PHP 5.3.1 and MySQL 5.1.x hard requirements, or recommended software?

Any idea what I'd be missing if I install 4.2 on my current config?

Thanks,
Steve

Yes, php 5.3.x is recommended. There might be some issues using php 5.2.x.

Sorry for the late followup on this topic...

Going to try a test installation of Civi 4.2 on PHP 5.2, so does anyone know of any particular issues that we should be looking out for?

In particular, in reference to the new & deprecated behaviour of PHP 5.3 as summarised at: http://php.net/releases/5_3_0.php

Not expecting too much detail; just whether we should be looking for Civi trying to use new PHP 5.3-only features, or if it's the loss of backwards compatibility that's likely to be the issue.

Many thanks,
Bryan

a few function use php 5.3 functions only. specfically there are parts of the code that use name spaces from 5.3

I am a little stuck at the moment with the 5.3 requirement as it may take some time to get the server upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS from 10.04.  I may try to install PHP 5.3.x on the 10.04 server but I've read that's not recommended.

An alternative would be to install an older version of CiviCRM, because we need it now and then do the OS upgrade later. Any comments on that idea.
