Drupal Commerce has Card On File functionality via the commerce_cardonfile module.

Has anything similar been done for CiviContribute? To be clear, the idea is, the user could have a list of saved cards to choose from, with a limited set of data stored in CiviCRM along with a reference to the card so that the gateway would know which card it refers to.
