I am trying to make a drop down combo enabled based on a check box selection.

How does one do this?

Do you mean as in a conditional field - if you choose X then you get ABC if you choose Y you get DEF?

Not sure i understand but if the above - not possible without js or using something like webform_civicrm afaik
