Change from $ amount to simple number

We're a trade association and are trying to initiate a contribution page that asks our clients to make a commitment to a program based on the number of members they serve.  Is there a way to change for this one contribution page only, the contribution from dollars to a simple number? This should then also apply to any reports and the widget.

I think this should be possible using custom templates. Check http://book.civicrm.org/developer/
