Automated messages not being sent

Hi,

I have civicrm 4.1 and drupal 6 installed on the site. The problem is, I have enabled "welcome message" and "Subscribe Message" and set them default in Headers, Footers, and Automated Messages. But they aren't being sent after user submits information. However, when user unsubscribes from mailing, unsubscribe message is being sent. Can you suggest what could be a problem?
